Bethesda-based company AHP Virginia, LLC has submitted an application to build housing for low-income seniors at 6858 Richmond Hwy. The company shares the same address as NFP Affordable Housing Corp, a non-profit dedicated to ending the affordable housing crisis.
The applicant proposes to build a 65-foot building of up to 52 age-restricted units on 0.63 acres of open green space adjacent to The Beacon at Groveton apartments. The site had previously been approved for office and retail use, but because of changing market conditions, it was never developed.
If approved, the senior living building dubbed “Beacon Hill Residences” would include one and two bedroom apartments as well as common areas and amenities and a small retail space on the ground level. It would also include parking spaces under the building.
The senior housing would be one of many affordable housing projects popping up along the Richmond Highway corridor. Construction on apartments, senior living and townhomes at North Hill are progressing quickly and The Arden apartment building near Huntington Metro is supposed to open this summer. A homeless shelter is in the works at 2801 Beacon Hill Rd.
The application for Beacon Hill Residences is currently under review by Fairfax County and a hearing date with Planning Commission has not yet been scheduled.
