At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, hundreds of people queued at Curative testing sites for nasal swabs.
While COVID-19 is still hanging around — more than 2,200 cases in the past three months in the City of Alexandria — the Curative testing sites won’t be here much longer.
The company announced that it is closing all COVID-19 testing sites nationwide. The ones in Alexandria (at Ben Brenman Park, Charles Houston Recreation Center and Casa Chirilagua) will close in the last week of December, according to DCist.
Curative started in California in January 2020 initially focused on sepsis testing, but the company pivoted quickly in March 2020 as the pandemic started to affect larger portions of the United States. The company opened thousands of COVID-19 (and later flu) testing sites nationwide. Now, most pharmacies and urgent care centers offer COVID-19 tests, and at-home testing options are available.
The company is pivoting to focus on health insurance. According to curative.com, “We're reinventing health insurance focused on whole-person care and transparent pricing so you can focus on your care, not your costs. Launching first in Austin, TX. No copays. No deductibles. No... Really.”
