The portion of Seminary Road in Alexandria's West End from Beauregard Street east to Hammond Middle School could be under the microscope.
City officials are requesting approval from City Council to apply for a grant from the Virginia Dept. of Transportation to look at particular interchanges and intersections on Seminary Road. The $1 million grant (plus $250,000 in allocations from developer contributions) would allow for the study on the complex and dangerous 0.6-mile stretch west of Hammond Middle School.
The stretch of roadway includes the entrances and exits to I-395, including the flyover and entrances/exits to the HOT lanes. It also includes a complicated off-ramp from I-395 to Seminary Road eastbound, which includes a large apartment complex and the approach toward Hammond Middle School, as well as access to the shopping center on the other side of the road.
Almost simultaneously, the city may be applying for a $100,000 technical assistance grant to support the study of Seminary Road and to support a separate study on a portion of Edsall Road.
