The Board of Architectural Review is going to review, again, a proposed four-story multifamily building in Old Town.
There is currently an underused office building at 301 N. Fairfax St., at the intersection of Queen Street. The owners are proposing tearing the building down and building a 50-unit residential building with one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. The building would include 67 underground parking spaces.
This is the third BAR concept review for this project. At previous meetings, "Some Board members expressed concern regarding the compatibility of the proposed building to the smaller scale buildings on Queen Street and suggested various options to address this issue," according to city documentation.
The office building on the site was constructed in 1977 and is not considered historically significant.
For this week's meeting, which is at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, "Staff recommends that the BAR endorse the proposed design for height, mass, scale, and general architectural character. The proposed design is an improvement over the previous version and staff finds that with continued design evolution, the project will be a successful addition to the blockface."
