Several Alexandria educators, leaders and researchers will be featured in the South by Southwest (SXSW) EDU Conference and Festival taking place this week in Austin, Texas. A selection of featured sessions are available through a livestream on the SXSW website, sxswedu.com/live.
Pamela Gilchrist, director of K-12 Programs at Virginia Tech Innovation Campus, and Michelle Millben, CEO of Code Rising (pictured at right), will be participating in a panel discussion titled “Strengthening STEM Ecosystems in Underestimated Cities.” This discussion is at 12:30 EST on March 5.
Rose Dawson, executive director of Alexandria Library, will join Lisa Guernsey and Audrey Davis in a discussion reflecting on the 1939 library sit-in at Alexandria Library and modern book bans. Davis is the director of the Division of African American History at the Office of Historic Alexandria and Guernsey is a senior fellow and strategic advisor at New America, a non-partisan think tank based in California. This panel starts at 2:00 EST on March 6.
Kelly Booz, director of Share My Lesson, a E-learning professional development platform from the American Federation of Teachers, will participate in a panel titled “Educators on the Frontlines of the Gun Violence Epidemic.” This event will be at 5:00 EST on March 6.
Ryan Reyna, a principal at Education Strategy Group, will participate in a discussion about applications of AI for post-high school advising. This discussion with other innovators will take place at 2:00 p.m. EST on March 6.
