Alexandria's City Hall is set to get an interior makeover in 2022 — but before it happens, Alexandria officials are asking for input from residents.
The City Hall Visioning Study is designed to collect input on which functions or services are the most important to remain in City Hall at 301 King St. The building houses more than 300 employees in a variety of different Alexandria departments and agencies.
In 2015, Alexandria officials developed workplace guidelines that identified current and future space needs for each department. The building, originally constructed in 1871, needs major upgrades and it is no longer possible to house all the existing staff and services in the renovated building.
But, the community might be better served by co-locating and moving certain services -- and that input from residents can help formulate those plans.
Design and construction of the improved City Hall will start in 2022.
The community is invited to provide their opinions online here by July 12. Combined with other feedback during the study period, officials will come up with a plan for renovations. More information is available at alexandriava.gov/CityHall.
A draft of those approaches will be available for public comment at a City Hall Visioning Community Meeting on July 31, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Sister Cities Conference Room 1101 in City Hall.
