The City of Alexandria is reviewing its policies on the Residential Permit Parking Program and is looking for input.
Currently, the process to create, expand or change restrictions has to be requested by residents and existing parking challenges must be demonstrated. To proactively manage parking issues in residential areas, City staff has been directed to identify specific circumstances when staff could also initiate the public process for changes.
In addition to a staff-initiated process, the "RPP Refresh" project will consider other updates to the program.
Some of the top issues include:
- Permit fees and limits on the number of vehicles a resident can park.
- Parking district boundaries.
- Inconsistent restrictions.
City staff is looking for feedback from residents to figure out which issues should be addressed. The top two or three topics will be discussed in more detail at future subcommittee meetings as part of this update.
The remaining topics may be reviewed in a later phase. For more information about the issues, including the problem/challenge, potential opportunities for improvement, background data and enforcement considerations, residents can review the chart.
