Alexandria has been named a Top 5 Best Small City in the U.S., according to the 2022 Conde Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards.
Alexandria is now “5 for 5” in its ranking among the Top 5 Best Small Cities for five consecutive years, since the category was created in 2018, Visit Alexandria pointed out Tuesday. This year, Alexandria landed the #4 spot behind Charleston (#1), Aspen (#2) and Santa Fe (#3), while rising above other well-known destinations including Savannah (#5), Greenville (#6) and Key West (#7).
Consistent high-profile rankings in Condé Nast Traveler and other national publications have helped boost our city’s visibility to an entirely new level, enabling us to join the prestigious list of Travel + Leisure’s Best Cities in the U.S. for the very first time this year.
The Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards are the longest-running and most prestigious recognition of excellence in the travel industry and are commonly known as “the best of the best of travel.” More than 240,000 Condé Nast Traveler readers submitted responses rating their travel experiences across the globe to provide a full snapshot of the top places they enjoyed this year and can’t wait to return to next.
Alexandria also has the unique positioning of being a Top 5 Best Small City in the U.S. located minutes from one of the Best Large Cities in the U.S. (Washington, D.C. is #9). Visitors can stay in one location but experience two of the nation’s best cities.
