Alexandria public libraries will re-open their doors with limited hours starting Monday, March 15. Libraries had closed as coronavirus cases spiked over the winter, but the recent decrease in cases is allowing the libraries to return to in-building services.
There will be a number of new rules in place for people visiting Alexandria libraries. These include:
- Patrons over the age of 5 must wear a mask that covers their nose and mouth at all times. Food and drink are not allowed to ensure masks stay on at all times.
- The library will only have a 25 percent occupancy rate.
- Patrons will be asked to have their temperature taken upon arrival. Temperature-taking equipment has been installed at all library entrances.
- Customers can only stay in the library for two hours at a time, including computer time.
- Materials will be quarantined for 24 hours before it is available for the next person to check out.
Curbside service will still be available for residents who wish to use it. Curbside-only service will be offered every Friday.
Meeting rooms will remain closed for now and library programs will remain online.
The library still is not accepting donations.
