Alexandria residents are already seeing dockless scooters and bicycles in the City — but as soon as next month, they will be operating legally.
The Alexandria City Council this week approved a 9-month pilot program for dockless scooters and bikes the operate in the city legally. The pilot program could start as early as December. (Right now, scooters are coming in from Arlington and the District, but Alexandria technically does not allow scooter companies to operate.)
During the pilot program, Alexandria will let dockless mobility companies operate up to 200 devices each (scooters, bikes or electric bikes) and require the companies to respond to complaints about improper parking within a few hours. Scooters will be allowed on sidewalks, and bikes and electric bikes will be allowed on some sidewalks.
More information on the pilot program will be available through the City of Alexandria Transportation & Environmental Services website here.
