The Alexandria Aces defeated the Bethesda Big Train, 5 - 3, Saturday night to clench the Cal Ripkin League Championship for the first time in the Alexandria Aces' history.
Alexandria swept Bethesda in a best-of-three series, ending a run of championship wins by the Big Train. The win came in the ninth inning after being tied at 3 - 3; two runs by Alexandria ended the game.
“It feels unbelievable. I can’t even put it into words,” series MVP Eddie Hacopian (Maryland) said. “We just came out there, and out dogged them from start to finish. That was our motto all year – just dogs being dogs.”
The game was played in Bethesda.
The Alexandria Aces are a collegiate summer league baseball team that are part of the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League. The league began in 2005 to promote collegiate baseball in the Baltimore-Washington metro area. The team plays at Frank E. Mann Field at Four Mile Run Park.
