Alexandria residents are among the most generous in the nation.
Spring2ACTion, hosted by ACT for Alexandria, raised $2,040,823 for Alexandria nonprofit organizations by the end of Wednesday. That's nearly $270,000 more than last year.
This year, ACT for Alexandria's goal was for 10,000 donors to raise $2 million for the 160+ organizations helping to make Alexandria a strong, vibrant community for all.
Last year, 9,438 donors raised $1,812,851 for 156 nonprofits serving Alexandria. This year, there were 9,462 donors who raised money for 162 organizations. This is the first year Spring2ACTion has passed the $2 million mark. According to GiveGab, the tech company that powered the Day of Giving online fundraising platform, Alexandria has one of the most successful giving days in the country with some of the most generous donors.
“We are so proud to be part of such a generous community” said Heather Peeler, President andCEO of ACT for Alexandria.
Participating nonprofits represent a wide variety of causes, including health and wellness, food and shelter, arts and music, schools and PTAs, children and families, veteran’s programs, animal rescue and more.
Spring2ACTion started in 2011 and is now one of the most successful giving days in the country, according to GiveGab. Early giving started March 27 and raised more than $515,000. Since then (but especially on Wednesday), businesses, nonprofits and individuals have been hosting events to spread the word and encourage donations.
