According to a recent study by SmartAsset, residents in Alexandria are among the highest earners in Virginia.
The analysis was completed as part of the company’s study on the places with the most purchasing power, and cost of living was factored into the calculations.
In Virginia, the places with the highest median income are concentrate in Northern Virginia (except for no. 10 on the list, Poquoson, which is just north of Norfolk).

The places with the lowest cost of living in the state are in southwest Virginia.
Nationwide, the three places with the highest median incomes are all in Virginia: Loudoun County has a median income of $142,299 and ranks first, followed by the City of Falls Church ($127,610) and Fairfax County ($124,831).
