Oh, this heat.
Alexandria is looking at a record heat index (how hot it feels outside) this weekend. Friday and Saturday temperatures could reach 99 and the heat index will be somewhere between 105 and 110 degrees.
Both Alexandria and Fairfax County are operating cooling centers and the pools are open, but some of our area's older homes and rental properties don't have central air conditioning.
We’re always going to have moments of being overwhelmed by the heat, but that's particularly true this month.
While there are well-known older methods of beating the heat such a, jumping into that pool, what if you found newer, smarter models through which you can achieve the same thing?
There are really cool ways to stay cool out there now.
1. Smart Air Conditioners
The air conditioner has stood the test of time: it turns any room into a palace. Yet, we know how air conditioners increase electricity bills and lead to wastage of power. Not with the new options on the market; for example, the Aros Air Conditioner, which can be synced with your smartphone. It has exciting offers such as tracking your air conditioner consumption of power and cooling down your room when its GPS tracker notes you to be close to home. You can also set a budget for the consumption of power by the air conditioner!
2. Double Walled Water Bottle
If you had a normal water bottle, and spend a day in a very hot environment, you would discover that the bottle of water goes from super cool to unbearably warm. Frustrating right?
The solution to this problem comes in the form of a double-walled water bottle which is layered with stainless steel and additional insulation that keeps drinks cold for close to 16 hours. Since it is BPA free, you can also relax knowing it is toxin-free.
3. Portable Misting Cooler
This is the best bet when you want to beat the heat while in the sun or in motion. It helps blow a concentrated flow of cool misty air in your direction, in amounts you are unable to ignore.
4. Gel Mats and Bed Jets
Need to get a good night rest, but unable to because of the intense heat? That can be super annoying!
With comfortable gel mats, as well as fancy bed jets such as can be found on CoolandPortable.com's bedjet review, you no longer have to feel uncomfortable on your journey to la-la land. You no longer need heating pads that have lots of wires or electric blankets, bed jet has a wireless climate control system which blasts refreshing air right under the sheets, and a single bed can have both cool and warm segments at the same time!
One other thing that makes it super comfy is that you don’t have to deal with buttons or dials, instead, you can control the Bed Jet with wireless remote devices or your smartphone.
5. Insulated Cooling Caps
The insulated cooling cap helps cool your hair by at least 20 degrees than air temperature via evaporation.
Before you put on this cap, you run it under cool running water, and wring it out until it gets damp. While one layer of the hat absorbs water and keeps the head cool, the other allows water to evaporate slowly over a couple of hours. This means your head totally remains cool, regardless of weather conditions!
6. Air Multiplier Fan
Need a fan that doesn’t use blades? Yes! With the air multiplier technology, the air is accelerated by means of an annular aperture, allowing airflow to go in a quiet, efficient and unhindered fashion.
Good examples are those produced by Dyson and Air Choice, with a very sleek design, with remote control and a sleep timer for your comfort and to save energy. Get your summer relaxation on with the purchase of an air multiplier fan.
Ready to rock the summer without getting burnt by the heat? With these super cool innovations, you can totally beat the heat!
