The Virginia Dept. of Health this week launched a new statewide COVID-19 vaccination registration system. The system will let residents register, get updates on their registration and more.
Fairfax County has opted out of the statewide system and is using its own dashboard, so Fairfax County residents will still use the Fairfax County registration system — at least for now. The City of Alexandria has migrated to the new state system.
The state system is accessible at vaccinate.virginia.gov.
- People who already registered for a vaccine appointment through the Alexandria Health Department do not need to register again.
- To register for the first time, residents can go to the Virginia system at vaccinate.virginia.gov.
- To check registration status, click on the Check the List link on the site. Note that it may take a few more days for all data to migrate over, so don’t worry (yet) if the system does not confirm your registration.
- If you registered as an employer earlier this year in group 1C through the Alexandria Health Dept. and you have not yet been contacted by local health officials for the identity of your employees, they should register through the statewide system.
While the new system may eventually streamline and improve communications, Virginia still doesn’t have enough nearly vaccines for the people who want them.
Alexandria has reported there are more than 36,000 city residents on the wait list for vaccines, and the local health department is receiving just 2,000 doses per week. President Joe Biden’s administration announced Tuesday afternoon that it is continuing to increase vaccines sent to states, and will double the vaccines sent directly to pharmacies.
In Alexandria and Fairfax County, a handful of CVS pharmacy locations are offering vaccines. The CVS registration system is separate from the new statewide system.
