The mass COVID-19 vaccination site at the Victory Center, 5001 Eisenhower Ave. in Alexandria, will be opening for business this week.
The center — a joint effort between Inova Health System, the City of Alexandria and Fairfax County — can handle more than 6,000 vaccine appointments per day, which will significantly increase the number of people vaccinated in the region quickly.
As of Sunday, about 14.9 percent of Alexandrians have been fully vaccinated (ages 16 and older).
Unlike previous weeks, when Alexandria was receiving just a few thousand doses of vaccine, the addition of the new vaccine site means Alexandria will receive more than 11,000 doses to distribute this week. This does not include doses going to private pharmacies like CVS or federally-qualified health centers.
The Victory Center vaccination site is by appointment only — and those receiving vaccines will be drawn from pre-registration lists like the one hosted by the Virginia Department of Health. (You can register here if you haven't already registered.)
The 50,000 square-foot vaccination center inside the Victory Center, which is now owned by Stonebridge, has more than enough parking — about 1,400 spaces in the east and west parking lots. There is storage, including deep freeze cold storage, for 400,000 vaccines.
