Alexandria's Sand & Steel Fitness, which opened a new facility in the West End last year, is helping U.S. Army soldiers pass the new Army Combat Fitness Test.
The test is now required for all soldiers — even those with desk jobs! — and there are no special accommodations for women or older soldiers.
"Many soldiers are concerned about losing a career they spent 20 years making," according to Paul Roberts, owner of Sand & Steel Fitness.
The Army Combat Fitness Test has 6 fitness events that test multiple aspects of fitness. The functional exercises are designed to replicate activities that a solider may need to do when deployed.
Sand & Steel Fitness is providing a free 2-hour ACFT workshop at noon on March 28 to teach soldiers how to safely and effectively train to pass this test.
Working off the U.S. Army’s documentation, Sand & Steel Fitness Owner Paul Roberts wrote an improved ACFT Training Guide and Workout Plan to help soldiers improve their test scores and better prepare them in all related exercises.
In connection with a custom ACFT Assessment, Sand & Steel Fitness will be using its ACFT Training Plan with all soldiers. Civilians may use the U.S. Army's test as a good benchmark for their personal fitness.
