Move2Learn
RunningBrooke is entering a new era — and it comes with a name change.
Move2Learn, powered by RunningBrooke, will be delivering services to students in Alexandria and regionally in a new way.
"We use movement to transform learning so all students can reach their highest potential," the organization explains. "We provide students and educators simple yet revolutionary tools that inspire movement in the classroom and throughout the day to prime the brain for learning; and we teach educators and students about the importance of the body-mind connection and the role of movement in social, emotional and academic well-being."
In addition, Move2Learn is expanded outreach to middle and high schools, out of school programming and SEAL lessons.
RunningBrooke was founded by Alexandria resident Brooke Syndor Curran in 2009, who has run more than 150 marathons in her lifetime.
Growing up, she had trouble paying attention in school. "I was always being called out for disrupting the classroom. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I understood the positive relationship between movement and learning," Curran wrote in her bio for the organization.
But it wasn't until she had children of her own that she discovered running — which she initially did just to get some time to herself. "Little did I know that what started out as a way to find time for myself would lead me to launch a nonprofit that has now served tens of thousands of children."
