The Inova healthcare system is looking for people who have had a positive COVID-19 test and have been symptom-free for 14 days.
Recovered coronavirus patients may be able to be a convalescent plasma donor. This plasma should be rich in immunoglobulins that may be helpful to patients who are actively fighting a COVID-19 infection.
"COVID-19 has no proven treatment, however, it is possible that donated plasma from people who have recovered from COVID-19 could help patients who are currently fighting the virus," according to Inova health officials.
To be a convalescent plasma donor, you must:
- Have had a positive COVID-19 test result that you can provide upon request
- Be at least 14 days symptom free
- Meet qualifications for plasma donation, including:
- Feeling healthy and well on the day of donation
- Not have donated blood or blood components in the past 28 days
- Weigh at least 110 lbs
- Age of 18 or older
- Meet other blood donor eligibility requirements.
To sign up to be a plasma donor and help others in their fight against COVID-19, go to https://www.inovablood.org/covid19plasma.
This Weekend: 52 New COVID-19 Cases in the City of Alexandria, 150+ in Fairfax County
The cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in Alexandria is now 383, including 8 fatalities. The Virginia Department of Health is now counting cases that are considered “probable” in addition to positive test results in this total number. Probable cases include symptomatic patients diagnosed in a clinical setting, but not tested.
This change in case categorization provides a more accurate picture of how COVID-19 is impacting Alexandria. It is essential for all community members, even those who don't have a diagnosed illness, to stay home except for essential trips such as brief visits to the pharmacy, doctor, or grocery store.
In Fairfax County, there were more than 150 new cases over the weekend, bringing the total to 1,970.
