Staying healthy and getting a flu shot are very important this year, since health officials don't know yet whether those who get the flu could be more susceptible to COVID-19. Nationwide, doctors are warning about a "twin pandemic" of flu and COVID-19 that could strain hospitals.
Here is a list of opportunities to get your flu shot in the Alexandria area. Most of them are free.
Flu shots are available at most pharmacies, urgent care centers and doctors’ offices if you cannot attend these events.

Alexandria
INOVA Alexandria Hospital
Sept. 4 – Dec. 4 on Fridays, 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Inova Alexandria is offering public flu vaccination clinics for adults and children 6 months and older at Inova Alexandria Hospital HEC 1 & 2, 4320 Seminary Rd.
Family members who are enrolled in Inova's health insurance plans may receive free flu vaccinations with valid insurance card. Flu shots are covered by most insurance plans and Medicare Part B.
For self-pay patients pricing may vary between hospital-based flu clinics and Inova Urgent Care locations. Participants are required to wear a face mask, have their temperature checked and complete a symptom questionnaire before receiving a flu shot.
Safeway Grocery Stores
Safeway is offering walk-in flu vaccination clinics at Alexandria locations with and without pharmacies. Safety protocols will be in place including masks, social distancing, hand sanitizer and screening for symptoms.

Drive through only free flu shot clinic at T. C. Williams High School at 3330 King St. This event is open for youth and adults who are age 12 years or older with a maximum of four people per vehicle. Masks and social distancing required. Proof of residency or insurance not required.
Sand & Steel Fitness
Sept. 26 | 10 a.m. to noon
Nurses from the Juburi Medical Center will be at Sand & Steel Fitness, at 5418 Eisenhower Ave. Please bring your driver’s license and your medical insurance card. Complimentary blood pressure test and blood oxygen test will also be provided. This event is open to all members and nonmembers.
Francis C. Hammond Middle School
Oct. 3 |9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Walk-up only free flu shot clinic at Francis C. Hammond Middle School, at 4646 Seminary Road, and is open to children and adults age 6 months and older. Parking will be available at this location. Masks and social distancing required.

Mt. Vernon District Office
