Sen. Mark Warner will face Republican U.S. Senate candidate Daniel M. Gade in November's election.
Gade handily defeated Thomas A. Speciale II and Alissa A. Baldwin in Tuesday's Republican primary with about two-thirds of the votes cast statewide.
In the City of Alexandria, Gade received about 63 percent of approximately 2,100 votes cast. In Fairfax County, Gade took about 65 percent of the votes. (Results will be finalized in the coming days.)
Gade is a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel and professor. He has 20 years of military service and was awarded the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, and two Purple Hearts. He graduated from West Point in 1997 and served in Iraq, Korea and elsewhere. He then political science, economics, and leadership courses at the U.S. Military Academy (West Point) and he is now a professor at American University in the District.
Sen. Warner was elected in 2008 and has been the U.S. Senator for Virginia since 2009.
