While curbside and sidewalk dining has helped a lot of restaurants survive the pandemic, an increasing number of restaurants are looking toward the sky for more space.
The latest is the Village Brauhaus on King Street.
The restaurant has a proposal before the Board of Architectural Review to construct a rooftop patio with outdoor seating. The rooftop dining would be above the existing bar area at the restaurant, and would include a covered bar, seating area and retractable canopy. The area would not be visible from the street.
The new space could host up to 49 people, according to the restaurant's application, which goes before the Board of Architectural Review on Nov. 3.
Village Brauhaus opened in 2018 at 710 King St. and serves up class and modern German and Austrian cuisine.
Earlier this year, Misha's Coffee opened a second location at 6 Prince Street with a rooftop patio, and nearby Chadwick's is building a double-decker patio along the side of its building near the waterfront.
