The restaurant is part of Neighborhood Restaurant Group, garnering four stars by more than 800 reviews on Yelp and 4.5 stars on OpenTable from more than 3,000 reviews.
The restaurant group closed its restaurants in March 2020 and offered delivery, reopening some of its eateries as some restrictions due to the pandemic lifted.
After the pandemic hit, Vermilion chef Thomas Cardarelli pivoted, starting Stracci Pizza as a food truck in Del Ray and moving into a brick-and-mortar restaurant at 106 Hume Ave. That space was formerly occupied by Nectar Coffee & Wine Bistro.
More about the eatery from Virginia's tourism website:
Established in 2003, Vermilion features a menu of contemporary American cuisine. A classic neighborhood restaurant and bar located in Old Town, Vermilion is the perfect place for a casual night out, an intimate dinner and all occasions in between.
The bar at Vermilion boasts an extensive list of specialty drinks along with a selection of classic single malt scotches and small batch bourbons as well as more modern Vodkas and Gins.
The Lounge begins only a few feet away from the bar, but exists a world away. Luxurious niches allow for personal conversations away from the action. The Lounge has played host to many an office happy hour, musical performance and special occasion.
