The Halal Guys is opening a restaurant at Alexandria Commons later this year.
Construction is underway at 3167 Duke Street for the new restaurant.
The menu features chicken, gyros, hummus, falafel, baba ganouj and more. The meats are halal-certified.
The Halal Guys is a nationwide chain with several locations in Northern Virginia. Current locations include West Springfield, Tysons, Dunn Loring and Fairfax. Catering is available, as is online ordering.
The Halal Guys started in 1990 as a hot dog cart on West 53rd and 6th Avenue in New York City. “As business grew, they recognized a huge demand from Muslim cab drivers looking for a halal food meal,” according to the company’s website.
There is no opening date for the Alexandria location yet. The Halal Guys is taking over a space formerly occupied by Jenny Craig, which is moving to a larger space in Alexandria Commons.
The Halal Guys has gotten rave reviews on Facebook, Yelp and from residents who have eaten at other locations.
