The Garden in Del Ray, a new eatery and beer garden, has an application before the Alexandria Planning Commission.
Back in the fall, the City gave approval for Charlie's On the Avenue, at 1501 Mt. Vernon Ave., to extend their eatery into the outdoor space next door at 1503 Mt. Vernon Ave., but the culinary team decided to create a separate restaurant.
That separate entity will be The Garden in Del Ray, aka The Garden.
The new eatery is from the same cuisine team — Jeremy Barber and Justus Frank — behind Charlie's On the Avenue and Live Oak, also in Del Ray.
On the menu at The Garden: Typical Mexican food with other grilled and small-plate options including tacos, chili dogs and charcuterie. The business plans to offer an array of beverages including beer, wine and mixed drinks. On- and off-premise alcohol sales are proposed.
The restaurant and beer garden are located at 1503-1505 Mt. Vernon Ave., the former home of Greenstreet Gardens and Eclectic Nature.
In order to create a brand-new restaurant, the building on the property is being renovated by Windmill Hill Design Build to include two restrooms, a kitchen, storage and more.
Patrons will have access to the restrooms, but all seating — for 64 — will be outdoors in a 960 square foot space. Hours are expected to be from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. No live entertainment is proposed but outdoor speakers and TVs will be on the premises and patrons will have their pick of outdoor table and lawn games.
