When Chef Justus Frank puts his Southern spin on the menu at Del Ray's Live Oak restaurant, he's often inspired by his childhood.
Visits to his grandmother as a boy were extra special, he said this week during a preview of his Winter Restaurant Week menu, because she always baked his favorite peanut butter squares (and made lemon squares for his sister).
You'll find Hazel's Peanut Butter Squares on the eatery's Winter Restaurant Week menu. Restaurant Week which off Friday and continues through next weekend all across Alexandria.
For those with a sweet tooth, whether trying out one of Alexandria's newer restaurants or enjoying time-honored favorites, many of the meal deals include dessert.
A sampling of some of the desserts that will be part of the special week include:
- Cannoli at Mia's, filled with sweet amaretto ricotta, chocolate chips and whipped cream.
- Roasted Apple with oats and miso-apple ice cream at Vermilion
- Chocolate Lava Cake with sea salt caramel ice cream at The Study at Morrison House
- Peanut Butter Panna Cotta with vanilla Chantilly, chocolate oat streusel and caramelized banana at Oak Steakhouse
- Chocolate Mousse Cake at Rampart's
- Banana Bread Pudding with butterscotch sauce and whipped cream at Theismann's
More than 75 restaurants in Alexandria will offer a $35 three-course dinner for one OR a $35 dinner for two during Alexandria Winter Restaurant Week, Jan. 17-26. More than 35 restaurants will also offer lunch menus at $15 or $22 per person in addition to the dinner specials. Brunch lovers can enjoy brunch menus for $15 or $22 per person at more than a dozen restaurants.
New Alexandria Winter Restaurant Week participants include Augie's Mussel House & Beer Garden, Mai Thai, Rus Uz – Alexandria, Spice Kraft and The Study at Morrison House. Returning participants include Columbia Firehouse, Del Ray Café, Jackson 20, The Majestic, Sunday In Saigon, Theismann's Restaurant and Urbano 116. Restaurants with lunch offerings include Bastille Brasserie & Bar, Hummingbird, Mason Social, Tequila & Taco and Yunnan by Potomac Noodle House. Restaurants with brunch menus include Café 44, Clyde’s at Mark Center, Sonoma Cellar and Vaso’s Mediterranean Bistro.
