Seafood lovers will soon have their pick of restaurants in Alexandria's West End.
Located practically across the street from a longtime Red Lobster, another seafood restaurant chain, Crafty Crab Seafood, has plans to open at 5770 Dow Ave., according to special use permits filed with the City's Planning and Zoning department.
The location was previously home to Portner Brewhouse, which closed its doors in October 2018.
The Crafty Crab menu includes gumbo, seafood boils, fried seafood including shrimp, catfish, tilapia, oysters and calamari.
Also on the menu: fried chicken tenders and cheese sticks. Chicken wings are also on the menu, in Buffalo, cajun or lemon pepper seasoning. Raw and steamed oysters are on the menu as well as scallops in "crafty cajun,"buttery garlic, lemon pepper and "the boom!", which is a combination of all three. Seafood platters are offered in small and large portions.
No word on an opening date.
The Crafty Crab, which has locations in Florida, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and South Carolina, does not plan to make any new major renovations at its Alexandria location, other than to remove the brewery room and add a new door.
Any public comments regarding the planned restaurant are due to the Planning Commission by Dec. 3.
