The former Stomping Ground is now officially Rubia's, a taco restaurant, in Alexandria's Del Ray neighborhood. It opened Tuesday, May 23.
Owner Nicole Jones wrote on social media May 23: "Well. We have softly opened our doors today. We are starting with breakfast (yes with our coffee) and will introduce brunch, margs and dinner in the coming weeks."
A post on the Stomping Ground Instagram account last month noted that the former eatery, which specialized in biscuits, was closing soon. The social media account is now dubbed Rubia's, @rubiastacoshop, noting that its new menu will feature "not authentic" but "just really good tacos."
Rubia's, helmed by chef Nicole Jones, will be serving up tacos for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Patrons can expect homemade flour tortillas, breakfast tacos, coffee, fresh fruit cups, pineapple croissants, and guava danish as well as salads and ceviche, rotating dinner tacos, nachos and margaritas. Expect to see a full menu coming soon.
In March, Jones noted in a letter to patrons that her team has decided that in April 2023, we will shutter our beloved biscuit house to make way for something entirely new. We will share more details as they become available - we are so very excited about the project. It makes financial sense, it makes my team renewed at the idea of something REALLY new.
Located at 2309 Mount Vernon Ave., the former restaurant was known for its buttermilk biscuits, fried chicken, hash browns, house pickles, monkey bread, banana bread and more.
