If you're into nostalgic candy that will take you back to your childhood days, you'll want to keep an eye out for the opening of Rocket Fizz, Soda Pop & Candy Shop at Fairlington Centre in Alexandria, according to signs posted in the windows.
The locally-owned franchise is part of a company that got its start in 2007 in California. There are two other Virginia locations: one in Leesburg and one in Richmond.
The Alexandria store is aiming to open in December, perfect timing for shopping for stocking stuffer holiday gifts for young and old alike.
Expect the store to carry about 2,000 different kinds of candy and 300 types of soda as well as gag gifts and signs. Some of the retro candy may include (according to a Doordash menu from the store): Fruit Stripe Gum, Sugar Babies, Oh Henry! and much more.
The soda flavors range the gamut from Lester's Fixins' Bacon Soda with Maple Syrup to Fidel Castro's Havana Banana. All sodas are made with mountain spring water and pure cane sugar. Individually wrapped saltwater taffy comes in zillions of flavors from birthday cake and apple pie a la mode to peanut butter and pumpkin.
Some sugar-free candy may also be available at the store, according to the Rocket Fizz menu. Those include sugar-free versions of Jolly Ranchers, Reese's Cups, York Peppermint Patties and more.
The shop, one of more than 80 nationwide and five company-owned stores, will be located at 1721 Centre Plaza in the space formerly occupied by Diversions, a popular greeting card shop that closed last year after 34 years in business. Rocket Fizz will be sandwiched between CVS and Whistle Stop Toy & Hobby.
