Starting Friday at 12:01 a.m., local restaurants will be able to sell mixed drinks to go, thanks to changes in Virginia alcohol laws.
"All Virginia restaurants that remain open are now take out or delivery only," Northam said during a news briefing Wednesday. "Allowing them to sell mixed beverages with takeout or delivery orders, will help them augment the revenue streams so they can continue to operate and employ Virginians."
Taqueria Poblano in Del Ray was selling margaritas (with tequila in them) at the start of the coronavirus pandemic, but had to stop temporarily while the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Commission clarified rules.
Alexandria residents, including Mayor Justin Wilson, have been advocating for the change. Restaurants still much comply with all relevant laws regarding sales to minors and customers cannot drink their beverages on the way home.
Visit Alexandria has a list of restaurants offering cocktails to go — see the list here.
