Pines of Florence will be making a comeback, but not in Alexandria.
ARLNow.com reported this week that the Italian restaurant will be opening in the Cherrydale neighborhood of Arlington, at 2109 N. Pollard St.
Pines of Florence operated at the intersection of King and Payne streets for several years before closing in 2020. The historic building it occupied is being incorporated into a new residential and retail development under construction now.
When Pines of Florence closed last year, a sign on the door indicated that it wasn't meant to be a permanent goodbye — the restaurant hoped to open again in the future.
In the 18 months since it closed, owner Jimmy Khan suffered through coronavirus and was on a ventilator for 40 days. He has recovered and is looking forward to the new Pines of Florence in Arlington, which may open this weekend.
The comic book store at 1304 King St., next door to Pines of Florence, also closed due to the construction.
