New sushi restaurant The Handover is open on King Street.
The sushi restaurant, taking the space formerly occupied by Eammon's Dublin Chipper and Bar PX, is at 728 King Street in Old Town.
The Handover operates on the first floor of the restaurant, with another new sushi-focused bar called the King's Ransom is on the second floor in the former Bar PX speakeasy lounge.
Both opened this week.
In both spaces, the bar is the focal point to reduce the amount of space between chef and guest. While The Handover is bright and simple in its decor, while King’s Ransom embraces dark colors and elegance, carrying on the tradition of Bar PX.
Beverage director Jon Schott focuses the bar on Japanese whiskeys and rare spirits. The venue also features Virginia's only Toki Highball Machine.
Chef Melvin Urrutia (The People’s Drug) will oversee The Handover’s rotating menu of temaki and sashimi. Urrutia was Chef de Cuisine at Alexandria’s Flying Fish for several years.
