Dudley's Sport & Ale's owners hoped to have the sports bar and restaurant in Shirlington with rooftop dining by NFL opening weekend.
But Arlington County officials have delayed the opening of the new venue. For safety reasons, inspectors have requested a dry fire suppression system for the rooftop area. In addition, the owners have some punch-list items remaining on the interior.
Here's what the owners said in a recent Facebook post:
"Wanted to give everyone an update since football season has begun and we aren’t open yet. Please understand we also want the venue to be open also but there have been continuous hurdles to overcome with this construction process. The latest is Arlington County would like us to add a dry sprinkler system to the outside rooftop area. The bottom floor is basically finished except for paint and small punch list stuff. Unfortunately both floors are tied into the CO so we can’t pass final inspections to open just one floor. Once the county approves the sprinkler system and and new alarm drawings we will have a better idea of opening. Thanks for being patient."
The owners first announced they were planning to open a sports bar in Shirlington more than two years ago.
The 12,000 square foot venue will have more than 40 televisions and lounge-style seating in addition to traditional tables and booths. The 3,000 square foot rooftop bar will have seating as well.
The new sports bar at 2766 Arlington Mill Dr. takes the place of The Bungalow, which closed in June 2015.
