Healthy, yummy, giant chocolate chip cookies? Sign us up!
MidnighTreats announced it will be opening on Friday, Aug. 11 in Old Town Alexandria.
MidnighTreats is a plant-based cookie shop, has "coming soon" signs up at 110 S. Payne St., the former location of Fleurir Chocolates.
Hours will be 1 - 8 p.m. on opening day and visitors will get a free chocolate chip cookie (while supplies last).
MidnighTreats' mission is: "To end the negative perception around plant-based foods by creating fun and exciting treats. We believe this will lead to a decrease in consumer demand for animal ingredients which will lead to the end of abusive factory farming."
The cookies start with one-third of a pound of dough, and the owners say that half a cookie is more than enough for one serving. (They recommend saving the rest for later.) Cookies include the classic chocolate chip, the cinna-roll, birthday cake and the brownie cookie. Specialty cookies change seasonally — right now, MidnighTreats offers a blueberry glaze and cookies n' creme.
The shop's kitchen is dairy, egg, peanut, and tree nut free (except coconut), according to the company. The cookies are plant-based and vegan-friendly. Some ingredients are produced in facilities that may contain allergens.
MidnighTreats was created by Johnny Nguyen, who grew up in Vienna and started the company from his mom's kitchen in 2018. The company has stores in Vienna and Reston.
