Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams has 35 locations nationwide — the closest is in the District near the intersection of 14th and U Streets NW. Jeni's is also in the process of opening a new shop at Bethesda Row in Maryland.
Jeni's Splended Ice Creams was founded in 2002 in Columbus, Ohio, by Jeni Britton Bauer. The company uses only whole ingredients (no artificial flavors or colors) and uses dairy from grass-fed cows. The company also has a variety of dairy-free options, a pint club, delivery service and ice cream cookbooks.
The company is also working toward zero waste and features compostable bowls, spoons and napkins. Compost bins are placed in most shops.
The company's mission is focused on great ice cream and customer service. According to the Jeni's website: "We believe that you can grow a business as a community of people, with artful attention to detail and the customer experience, and get continuously better at the same time. That REALLY great ice cream served perfectly in a sparkling and beautiful space, with attentive and in-the-moment service (we believe service is an art) brings people together and helps them connect. And that sometimes sparks fly. And that there should be more sparks flying, generally. We like to make people feel good."
There is no opening date yet for the Alexandria location.
