Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream Shop has opened in Shirlington Village. The ice cream, which has been called "America's best" by Time magazine, will offer free ice cream at its grand opening, set for March 8 from 7-11 p.m.
The ice cream shop, located at 4150 Campbell Ave., will offer free swag bags as well to the first 50 people.
The space was formerly occupied by IC-E-NY, a shop featuring rolled ice cream that closed in 2021.
Regular hours are 12 noon to 11 p.m. The shop offers gluten-free and dairy-free options. The most popular flavors, according to Jeni's are:
1. Brambleberry Crisp: Oven-toasted oat streusel and a sweet-tart brambleberry jam of blackberries and blackcurrants layered throughout vanilla ice cream.
2. Brown Butter Almond Brittle: Brown-butter-almond candy crushed into buttercream ice cream.
3. Darkest Chocolate: Mouth-filling and palate-gripping with a pleasingly dry finish. The most amount of Fair-Trade-Certified cocoa possible and the least amount of anything else.
4. Gooey Butter Cake: Cream cheese ice cream layered with crumbles of vanilla cake and a swirl of caramel-butterscotch sauce.
5.Salted Peanut Butter with Chocolate Flecks: Salted ground roasted peanuts with grass-grazed Ohio milk and crunchy, dark chocolate flecks.
You might want to try one of their new flavors, inspired by hit TV show "Ted Lasso," which will make its debut Thursday, March 2. Here's how Jeni's describes it: "Our collab flavor with Ted Lasso! Crumbly shortbread cookies in buttery sweet cream. Salty, mouthwatering, conversation-worthy."
