The food hall coming to 200 Stovall St. next summer will be called Ike’s Five Star, according to founding partner Scott Shaw.
The venue will feature 11 fast-casual restaurants and one central bar. Plans call for both indoor and outdoor seating, as well as carry-out options.
Ike’s Five Star will take up more than 13,000 square feet on the ground floor of the building, which is currently undergoing reconstruction. (Ike is a reference to President Dwight Eisenhower, who went by Ike.)
The strategy for the food hall is to bring in a number of Alexandria restaurants to anchor the food hall, and also draw in other area restaurants. “I want to keep a local focus on this,” Shaw told Alexandria Living Magazine Wednesday.
“I think the consumers have embraced fast casual, and food halls are just a cooler version of fast casual. Think of this as a fast casual in a hipper environment with a bar,” he said.
Shaw is partnering with Andrew Galbraith and Kelly Grant on the project.
“I’ve kept my eye on the Eisenhower Valley, and it has reached an inflection point with the National Science Foundation, this new building, the Wegmans project [and] residential,” Shaw said.
In addition, Shaw said the food hall will be a nice place for those who want to pair dinner and a movie at the AMC Hoffman Center 22.
The proposed hours of operation according to documents filed with the City of Alexandria are 7 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday, and 7 a.m. – 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
A public hearing and consideration of the request for a special use permit is on the docket for the July 9 City Council meeting.
200 Stovall St. is located just north of the Eisenhower Metro Station and west of the AMC Hoffman Center 22 movie theater.
200 Stovall Street was an office building built in 1969 and most recently leased by the U.S. General Services Administration. Now under redevelopment, the first floor will include the food hall and other uses, and the remainder of the building will include parking and residential space.
