The Fairfax County Park Authority will open some of its farmers markets this month.
This year’s markets will have delicious, locally grown, farm-fresh products — but the set-up will be a bit different to facilitate physical distancing.
Openings will start with just three markets in Fairfax County, with more markets being added as resources allow.
The first three markets to open include the Mount Vernon/McCutcheon Farmers Market — it will open Wednesday, May 13, open from 8 a.m. to noon. That market is at the intersection of Sherwood Hall Lane and Parkers Lane.
The other two farmers' markets opening initially are in Reston on May 9 and Burke on May 16.
Fairfax County officials state: "Market shoppers are asked to comply with all COVID-19 health and social distancing requirements designed to protect customers and market staff and volunteers—including limiting shoppers to two persons per household, wearing facial coverings, and maintaining six feet of distance from others at the markets."
Pets will not be allowed, there will be no free samples, and cashless payments are preferred.
Pre-ordering items and streamlined payment and pick-up options should help make market visits relatively brief for customers. You can learn more about pre-ordering from your favorite vendors here.
