Kingstowne Shopping Center I, Limited Partnership
A Chick-fil-A in Kingstowne could be opening sooner rather than later. The Fairfax County Planning Commission will review plans for the popular fast food chain at a meeting on Nov. 4.
The application submitted to the Planning Commission proposes a 5,200 square foot restaurant with a drive-through at 5810 Kingstowne Center, the former site of Fiona’s Irish Pub which closed abruptly in June 2019.
Plans show that the drive-through will be in the rear of the restaurant and will have a canopy and digital menu sign. The designs also requests up to 54 outdoor seats. Hours of the restaurant are proposed to be Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. – 10 p.m.
Chick-fil-A was founded by Georgia-based restaurateur Truett Cathy in 1967. The restaurant is famous for their chicken sandwiches and cow-themed advertising. All chain locations are closed on Sundays in alignment with the founder’s religious beliefs that Sunday should be a day of rest.
Being closed one day a week has not stopped Chick-fil-A from achieving national success with 2,605 locations and counting in 48 U.S. states and Canada, including nearby locations in Springfield and Falls Church. This would be the restaurant’s first location in Alexandria.
The company opened a UK location in 2019 but was quickly forced to close it following protests surrounding the restaurant chain’s history of donating to anti-LGTBQ+ organizations. The company announced a refocus of its charity donations in November 2019.
Following the Planning Commission’s decision on Nov. 4, plans for the Chick-fil-A will be reviewed by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. Information on the Planning Commission’s Nov. 4 meeting can be found here.
