Update August 2018: Charlie's on the Avenue is on the cusp of opening in Del Ray at 1501 Mount Vernon Avenue.

Brisket tacos, meatloaf sliders, spaghetti and meatballs, homemade pretzels — hungry yet?
A new Del Ray restaurant, Charlie's On The Avenue, is eyeing a May opening and is expected to be open daily for lunch and dinner. Charlie's will offer lunch specials for local workers, show all the big games on weekends and will be kid-friendly.
The family-friendly eatery at 1501 Mt. Vernon Ave. takes the place of FireFlies, a 15-year mainstay where President Obama famously dined in 2014 grabbing a burger with his Education secretary. FireFlies closed Christmas Eve 2017.
The restaurant is the second one in Del Ray for Justus Frank and Jeremy Barber, who opened Live Oak in Del Ray in 2016. Joel Rojas will be at the culinary helm at Charlie's.
Live Oak has earned four stars on Yelp with 138 reviews.
