A new cafe serving fried pastries is coming soon to Alexandria
A cafe serving Ethiopian coffee and beignets is opening soon in Old Town. Ben’yays take over the space at 1028 King St., formerly home to Lori’s Table, which closed in December.
According to the restaurant's website, Ben’yays will serve beignets topped with the traditional powdered sugar or with cinnamon and sugar. Customers can choose from chocolate, vanilla, strawberry or raspberry dipping sauces for their beignets. (Beignets are a type of fried dough, often served piping hot and covered with sugar. They are popular in New Orleans and other regions.)
They will also serve a variety of coffee shop favorites like drip coffee, lattes and cappuccinos, along with other non-coffee offerings.
The owner was not available for comment and according to city records, the commercial certificate of occupancy is still in the process of being finalized. Signs in the window promise that they are “opening soon.”
