Bagel Uprising announced in a Facebook post Saturday that it is returning to Del Ray:
“Big bagelicious news: Poppy, sesame & the rest of the gang are coming back! We’re teaming up with Nicole from Stomping Ground to open a permanent Bagel Uprising shop in the heart of Del Ray.
Where? The former Happy Tart, 2307A Mt Vernon
When? Aiming for March
Yum? Absolutely!”
Bagel Uprising, which operated out of SnackBar, closed in September 2018 when SnackBar closed. Catch on the Avenue opened recently in the former SnackBar at 2419 Mt. Vernon Ave.
Happy Tart, the gluten free bakery, closed on Jan. 31, making room for Bagel Uprising to move in. Happy Tart is reportedly moving in a new direction with national distribution planned. The Falls Church Happy Tart location at 410 S. Maple Ave. is still open, according to the company.
Bagel Uprising, founded by Chad Breckinridge, has a cult-like following and many residents said Breckinridge makes the best bagels in Alexandria. The company launched at the Four Mile Run Farmers and Artisans Market in September 2015 before opening inside Snackbar.
Back in November, Bagel Uprising tweeted: "Thank you for patience as Bagel Uprising zeroes in on a new location. We're making progress (more slowly than we'd like), but we expect to be making an announcement soon!"
