Inspired by the autumn season, Port City Brewing Company announced this week they are debuting a new limited-release beer designed for fall dining. The Alexandria company will celebrate the release of "Baltic Porter," their newest beer in its draft-only Lager Series, at a series of events.
Born at the turn of the 19th century when exported British porter was incorporated into the Baltic states’ lager tradition, Baltic Porter is a strong, dark beer with a clean lager character and loads of malt flavor reminiscent of toffee, toast, chocolate, and Port wine, according to Port City. The perfect choice when the weather begins to cool, Baltic Porter "pairs beautifully with beef stew, smoked meats, and rich aged cheeses."
“The Lager Series gives our brewers the opportunity to get creative and brew some lesser-known styles,” said founder Bill Butcher. “Sometimes people think lager is just one thing, so we’re excited to dissuade people of that notion with a diverse array of delicious lagers.”
Baltic Porter will make its debut at the Port City Brewing Company Tasting Room Release Party on Friday, Oct. 12, from 3-10 p.m. which will feature live music and Rocklands BBQ. Port City is located at 3950 Wheeler Ave.
A DC release party is planned for Thursday, Oct. 18 from 5-8 p.m. at Meridian Pint, 3400 11th St. NW in DC. Another celebration is set for Oct. 24 at the Whole Foods in Glen Allen.
