Reclaimed wood, original brick and a mural of St. Augustine will be welcoming residents to the new Augie's Mussel House and Beer Garden Monday night in Old Town Alexandria.
The restaurant at 1106 King St. hosted a family and friends night Friday.
Prominently displayed above the 1st floor bar is an industrial mahogany wood beam salvaged from the banks of the Potomac River near the old Robinson Terminal warehouse. The bar is decorated with epoxy panels featuring broken beer bottles recycled from Mason Social.
Common Plate Hospitality, which also operates Urbano 116, Mason Social and Catch on the Ave.) has fully renovated the historic building at 1106 King Street.
The two-floor restaurant will seat 140 people. The upstairs seated dining has accommodations for larger parties and events, while the main floor features casual dining. The outside patio, with a bar, is heated and has 3 large screen televisions and seating for up to 75 people.
Chef Alam Mendez Florian (of Urbano 116) and Chad Sparrow will lead the kitchen with 10 mussel-focused options in addition to sandwiches, burgers, appetizers and an extensive list of beers on tap and other drinks. Weekend brunch will start in the coming weeks.
