Augie's Mussel House is aiming for a September opening after completing renovations, according to employees at one of its sister restaurants, Urbano 116.
The restaurant in Old Town Alexandria, at 1106 King St., is in the spot that formerly housed Hunting Creek Steakhouse.
The eatery is part of the Alexandria-based Common Plate Hospitality company which includes Mason Social, Catch on the Ave. and Urbano 116.
According to Augie's website at www.eataugies.com, "Inspired by St. Augustine, the Patron Saint of Brewers, Augie’s Mussel House on the Patio in historic Old Town, Alexandria blends traditional Belgium cuisine with a modern twist. Our creative mussel offerings can be thoughtfully paired with one of our extensive Ale selections. Whether you are enjoying a waffle and frites or one of our many brews on the festive patio, Augie’s has you covered!"
Most recently owned by Alexandria businessman Jeff Yates Enterprises, Hunting Creek closed its doors March 6 last year. Yates passed away Feb. 22, 2018 after a battle with cancer. The gourmet steakhouse had opened in February 2015.
Augie's Mussel House opened for a few months last year as a pop-up in the same location while planning for this more permanent opening.
