Old Town North neighborhood staple A La Lucia, at 315 Madison St., will be able to stay open a little bit longer than expected.
The restaurant is one of several businesses being displaced by redevelopment, but the restaurant's ownership announced it will stay open through the late spring. The restaurant was originally slated to close at the end of this year.
Property owner Carr will replace the commercial building known as Montgomery Center with hundreds of residential units, retail and arts components on the ground floor, and large underground parking garage. Currently, Montgomery Center takes up the entire 2-acre block surrounded by Montgomery, Madison, North Royal and North Fairfax streets.
A La Lucia specializes in homemade-style Italian dishes and has been in business for more than 20 years. The owner and his wife will retire, so the restaurant will not relocate or reopen.
