Webinar: Exploring the Alexandria African American Trail (AAAHT)
In honor of Juneteenth, get a behind-the-scenes look at a recent community history project that features the stories and contributions of African Americans to Alexandria’s history. Members of the African American Heritage Trail Committee will discuss the importance of Black history in Alexandria, what archaeology reveals about the past, and the potential benefits and impacts of community history initiatives. Prominent and little-known stories of African American people, places, and neighborhoods from the time of Alexandria’s founding through the 20th century will be highlighted. The webinar will also feature a sneak preview of select stops on the Southern Route of the Waterfront Heritage Trail currently under development.
