Travlenka (Etched Egg) Workshop
Make your own etched egg with local egg artist and instructor Stephanie Cheeseman, aka Pysanky Steph!
A travlenka is a modern style of etched egg, based in the ancient Ukrainian egg tradition called pysanky (PIH-san-kih).
The same traditional tools used to make pysanky are used for creating a wax-resist design on a blown egg. The shell is then soaked in vinegar to take away layers as the acid etches around the wax. The egg is then cleaned and wax removed to show the natural beauty of your design!
This class will use blown brown chicken eggs, candles, wax, vinegar, and specialized tools for creating your design. All supplies will be provided!
Beginners are welcome! You may benefit from some experience and/or knowledge of the Ukrainian folk art of pysanky, but it is not required at all! All skill levels and backgrounds are encouraged to learn and create with us!
A portion of this class price will benefit Razom for Ukraine as part of the annual fundraiser coordinated with Made in ALX, the Critical Mass LLC, and Pysanky Steph.
