New Dominion Chorale Presents Rossini: Petite Messe Solennelle
Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle is not petite in musical delight! Though originally scored for piano and organ accompanying only twelve singers, it gains in joyous intensity when performed by larger forces. Written over thirty years after Rossini stopped composing operas, his mass was intended for operatic voices, and New Dominion Chorale’s performance features dazzling soloists from the Metropolitan Opera: Sharon Christman, soprano; Elizabeth Bishop, mezzo-soprano; and Mikhail Svetlov, bass; with Allan Palacios Chan, tenor; keyboard virtuosi Thomas Pandolfi, pianist; and Todd Fickley, organist. Hear New Dominion Chorale, conducted by Artistic Director Thomas Beveridge, in Rossini’s amazing feat of creative renewal.
