Join the City of Alexandria for the 2024 Eco-City Festival on Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) at 5000 Dawes Ave. Eco-City Alexandria is a collaborative, strategic effort to achieve sustainability throughout the city of Alexandria.
“As we celebrate 275 years as a City, we also have to think about what the next 275 will look like.” said James Parajon, Alexandria City Manager. “The sustainability championed at the Eco-City Festival ensures that they’ll be bright.”
The FREE event is for everyone from families looking to spend their Saturday participating in engaging STEM activities to Alexandria residents committed to sustainability. Attendees will have the opportunity to:
- Engage with City departments through fun games.
- Eat at a variety of local food trucks.
- Participate in a youth bike rodeo.
- Test drive electric vehicles, e-bikes, and scooters at an EV ride and drive.
- Learn more about the City’s sustainability efforts and how to take part.
“Every day in Alexandria is one dedicated to the environment,” said Ryan Freed, the City’s Climate Action Officer. “Join us at the Eco-City Festival to have some fun and learn how you can do your part for the city we share”

Join us and get a tree seedling
The first 275 residents to visit can receive a free tree seedling to plant in their own yard! In honor of Alexandria's 275th anniversary, the City will be giving out 275 seedlings of native Virginia trees. Visit volunteers at the Alexandria Beautification Commission table to get yours and learn how to care for it.
This opportunity for the community to get involved was inspired by the City’s ongoing initiative to plant 275 trees in strategic locations across Alexandria. These trees, which stand 7 to 12 feet tall, will help mitigate the negative impacts of stormwater runoff, reduce the heat island effect through a replenished tree canopy, and more.
